Editorial Policy
Last updated: February 25, 2026
Dogs Portal is an independent resource. Our goal is to help people make thoughtful, informed decisions about dog ownership—starting with adoption.
Our stance on adoption
We believe in adoption before purchase. All of our guides are written with the assumption that readers will explore shelters and rescues first. Breed profiles are published as trait reference guides—not as a recommendation to seek out breeders or specific purebred dogs.
How we use breed profiles
Breed profiles describe generalised traits based on established breed standards and widely documented behaviour patterns. We explicitly note that individual dogs vary significantly and that many mixed-breed dogs share traits with one or more breeds. These profiles are most useful as a starting framework when evaluating dogs available for adoption—not as a guarantee of any individual dog's behaviour or health.
Cost estimates
Our monthly cost estimates are based on real-world data from public sources, veterinary cost surveys, and typical retail pricing. We provide clear assumptions and note where costs vary significantly by region or individual dog. We update estimates periodically but recommend verifying local costs independently.
Independence
Editorial content is produced independently of any commercial relationships. Where affiliate links appear, they are disclosed clearly. Affiliate relationships do not influence which products, services, or approaches we recommend. See our Affiliate Disclosure for details.
Accuracy and corrections
We make reasonable efforts to ensure accuracy. If you believe something on this site is incorrect, please contact us. We will review and correct errors promptly.
